APRIL TREND REPORT

April 18th, 2011 by Sophie Robinson.

COLOURAMA

The biggest trend this Spring involves getting confident with colour and be warned, it’s bold and bright. I think it’s the perfect way to celebrate the new Spring season, a time when the countryside bursts into colour, so why not do the same in your home and introduce some Spring Bright’s. I recently styled the decorating feature in the current April issue of Ideal Home magazine. The whole issue is dedicated to Colour and is packed with inspiration to rejuvenate your room scheme.

My top tips on how to decorate with colour:

1.     BRING BALANCE by combining your bright colours with plenty of neutral ‘white space’. This can be white walls or neutral coloured furniture and flooring. The idea is to break it up rather than saturate bold colours.

2.     ADD AN ACCENT COLOUR to sit alongside your chosen dominate colour. For example team indigo blue walls with dots of zesty yellow on lampshades and cushions.

3.     BE BOLD. My best tip to anyone wanting to make a wow factor in their scheme is don’t chicken out last minute. One bold fuchsia pink wall will have far more impact than four powder pink ones.

4.     GET THE RIGHT LIGHT. Bold saturated hues really look there best in under bright lights so include plenty of decorative pendant lights and lamps to accentuate your scheme

5.     PAIR WITH BOLD PRINTS Bright colours love bold patterns, which continue to be another strong trend in 2011. Look out for bold geometric prints and fabulous florals to compliment your scheme.

THREE HOT HUES FOR 2011

Images styled by Sophie Robinson, Photographed by Dominic Blackmore for April issue of Ideal Home magazine.

TANGERINE

Tangerine orange has to be one of the hottest colours for summer 2011. For Ideal Home Magazines stand at the recent Ideal Home Show I incorporated a striking orange wall in Charlottes locks, one of the newest colours at designer paint company Farrow and Ball. To diffuse the look I added shades of grey and monochrome to temper this hot hue. Zesty shades of lime green and turquoise also look stunning with this colour

INDIGO

Deep shades of denim and azure blue making strong waves in interiors this season. This strong colour hue also works really well with the coastal trend- so balance the look with washed out whites, soft linens and limed wood. A restful colour I think it works particularly well in bedrooms, Team indigo walls with crisp white bed linen for a fresh and classic look.

FUCHSIA

I think nothing signifies pure confidence than a bright shade of fuchsia pink. My tip this season is vamp the look up even more and for grown up glamour team with pillar box red. Like a lipstick, these colours work well in high gloss so invest in lacquered accessories and high sheen fabrics for the ultimate wow factor.
